When a study of art becomes an act of kindness... fifth-grade art students were studying the artist Shantell Martin and were inspired to create their own line mural. The artist writes positive phrases within her line works, but the students included phrases like "hang in there," "go team," and "be kind" without prompting. 🥰

Renbrook`s Emergency Team members participated in CPR training and a CPR refresher course last week. Led by Lori Flaherty, a nurse leader from the Town of West Hartford Non-Public-School nurse program, the training aimed at enhancing the team`s proficiency in handling potential medical events on campus.
The team learned CPR for adults, children, and infants, as well as how to use AED for a cardiac event. They also acquired valuable skills in managing choking incidents. The Emergency Team at Renbrook trains regularly to promote an efficient response to any school emergency and reduce the incidence of life-threatening emergencies as they handle all medical events until EMS services arrive and under the direction of the school nurse.

JKEM created watercolor-resistant winter birch trees. Don`t you just love the colors they have chosen? The children had their little fingers busy as they ripped and tore painters` tape to create the natural and organic forms of the trees on white watercolor paper. After they created their trees, they painted watercolor right over the tape! Some of the new blended color combinations are magnificent! After their masterpieces were dry, they carefully peeled back the tape and went back to add some little lines and dots of detail to make their white birth trees jump off the page! Hopefully, these beautiful trees will add color and cheer to the dreary and cold winter months.

After a restful Thanksgiving spent with family and friends, faculty and staff hit the ground running Monday at their Professional Development Day! Exciting updates about the new library design and its connectivity to the Library Learning Commons Model and our curriculum were shared. The Inquiry Model was also discussed as a tool that affirms our strong hands-on, project-based approach, and faculty collaborated to ensure its use would be "uniquely Renbrook", aligning with current projects and future plans. The room had great energy, and we are excited about the future!

Second-grade art students were inspired by Ruth Asawa, a Japanese-American sculptor who created large and small sculptures out of wire. The students had been studying lines when we looked at her work and observed how the wire in her work made a variety of lines. To complement the study, they also read the book A Life Made by Hand by Andrea D`Aquino.
