Performing Arts

The Performing Arts program at Renbrook offers a rich array of opportunities for students, whether they arrive with a well-developed passion for music or theatre, or are simply eager to explore something new. Our comprehensive music program includes Concert Bands, Jazz Band, Chorus, Renaissance (an auditioned choral ensemble), and a String Ensemble for students experienced in violin, viola, cello, or bass. In addition, Music Connections classes cultivate foundational musicianship skills through reading, games, listening, and hands-on experience with instruments such as the ukulele, xylophone, and recorder.
Students in grades five through eight are also invited to audition for our annual Winter Musical, a large production that welcomes performers of all experience levels. Recent shows include Frozen, Finding Nemo, Matilda, and Seussical. For those drawn to the technical side of theatre, RenTech offers opportunities to manage lighting and sound, while students interested in backstage leadership may apply for the role of Stage Manager.

Music

At Renbrook, we believe in teaching music for music’s sake. The musical skills and concepts that students learn at Renbrook enable them to appreciate and engage in music for a lifetime. Participating in music fosters confidence and discipline in students as they advance throughout our extensive programing.

Choral Music: Students have opportunities to perform in a variety of vocal ensembles beginning with Fifth Grade Singers, Chorus for students in grades 6-8, and Renaissance, a chamber singing group with membership by special audition.

Instrumental Music: Novice and intermediate instrumentalists perform in our concert bands. Students who have achieved more advanced proficiency through lessons and dedicated practice may audition for Jazz Band and String Ensemble.

Theater Arts

Upper School students have the opportunity to audition for one of two musicals - everyone gets a part and everyone has fun! Students also contribute to the performing arts through technical theater: learning how to run the light and sound board, managing backstage, art and costume design for productions, and building sets.
