Visual Arts

The Upper School Visual Art and Design Program strives to create an environment where students feel safe to express themselves. Students build skills and technique in 2D and 3D design as they gain confidence to create with a variety of media. In Studio Art, Woodworking, and Design-Build classes, students build both analytical and creative-thinking skills as they study the evolution of design and apply those skills to their own projects.

Studio Art

The process of creating art enhances our students' skills of observation and hones their muscles of empathy. The study of artists and art history broadens a student's understanding of how various historical events and cultural beliefs influence creative expression. The study of artistic design helps each student gain a more personal appreciation of quality. By focusing on imagination, expression, and observation, the Upper School Studio Art Curriculum motivates students to create personally meaningful art. It is their ability to actively participate in the creative process that enables them to recognize and respond to life's many possibilities.
