Our Camp Programs are immense in offerings and experiences! There is something for everyone. Outdoors and indoors, athletic and artistic, academic, and just pure fun! Take a look at just a small sample of all of the adventures to be had at RSSA. These programs are already included in the camper's daily schedules based on their divisions so there is no need to choose ahead of time.
Pottery
Your camper will make more than just memories in our pottery studio; they will make art that can last a lifetime. Starting with our youngest campers, clay is molded every session into pieces of art that will live on your mantles and bookshelves for years.
During week one, campers will create their masterpieces under the guidance of our experienced art teachers. Their pieces are then fired in our kiln at over 1800 degrees to set the clay. Then during week two of the session, your camper will finish their creations with paint and a glaze. The final touch is another round in the kiln and viola; your camper has created art that will last a lifetime! As campers continue their growth at camp, they will find the pottery studio offers more. They can create their own unique designs by hand or use the pottery wheel to make bowls, cups, or vases. Again they will have the pottery staff's experienced hands to guide them in their journey with clay.
Arts and Crafts
Does your camper love to paint? Is woodworking more their style? Or do they prefer to create their art with other mediums? Our art studios allow and encourage the campers to create and learn in all forms of art. Projects start with guidance from our veteran art staff but often finish with a flare only campers can create. Pastels, crayons, markers, and pencils are everywhere in our art rooms. Campers have guided activities and goals as they craft their next work of art. Older campers can create more unique pieces as they enjoy choosing their mediums in the studios.
Woodworking is a unique form of art here. Campers create simple and complex creations ranging from a small box for your treasures to a bench that can hold hundreds of pounds. Our lathes are often spinning as pens emerge from the blanks of wood. All of this is under the watchful eye of our woodworking staff.
Crafting can take many forms: Tie-dye, beading, bracelet making, and weaving all make their way into camp every day. Camp crafts are popular because you often wear what you make as a badge of honor!
Music and movement
Singing and dancing are great forms of expression and exercise. Your campers will enjoy both as they learn new camp songs or hit the dance floor to bust a move. Our music and movement programs are meant to explore some fun dancing techniques in a fun and engaging way.
Imagination Station
It’s a little bit of storytime, a little bit of arts and crafts, and all imagination. Every session, this camp favorite transforms into a world of wonder. The campers will walk into this program and instantly fall into a special place. The theme sets the tone for the activities. Superhero week had the campers leaping over tall buildings, completing a super obstacle course, and making custom super capes. Under the sea had campers enjoying a sensory station where they hunted for undersea treasure in the bin of water beads and then created an undersea scape of their own with a craft project. These are just 2 examples of what our staff "imagines" for Imagination Station. Each summer brings new journeys into an imaginative world of joy and fun!
Woodworking
Woodworking is a place where mind, muscle, and creativity come together to turn wood into something wonderful! Each session, campers will design and build their very own creation, whether it is a table, stool, or something they come up with on their own. New skills and confidence are gained as campers explore wood as an artistic medium!
