Harvard Graduate School of Education - M.Ed., Connecticut College - B.A.

Sarah Knortz joined Renbrook in 2023 as Upper School Counselor and Life, Learning, and Leadership Teacher. She holds a B.A. in Sociology-based Human Relations with a minor in Psychology from Connecticut College and an M.Ed. in Prevention Science and Practice from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In addition, she earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling and holds Massachusetts professional licensure as a School Social Worker and School Adjustment Counselor.

Sarah leads the planning and implementation of Renbrook’s Upper School social and emotional learning curriculum through the Life, Learning, and Leadership course, which students in grades 5 through 8 take each year. She also serves on the student life team, advises Meditation Club, and collaborates with faculty and grade-level leaders to strengthen student support systems across the division.

Before joining Renbrook, Sarah worked as a middle school tutor through the MATCH Corps AmeriCorps Fellowship, a 7th-grade English teacher, and later as a School Counselor and Director of Counseling and Wellness at The Rivers School in Massachusetts. She also served as a graduate and post-graduate Teaching Fellow at Harvard, supporting courses focused on child and adolescent development, assessment, and resilience.

Sarah has long believed that school is one of the most powerful contexts for shaping identity, confidence, and purpose. Inspired by mentors who supported her own growth, she is committed to helping students see challenges as opportunities and to ensuring that each child feels valued, understood, and capable. As a counselor, her priority is supporting students’ growth beyond academics so they can thrive socially, emotionally, and personally.

She loves Renbrook’s family-like community and the shared commitment of faculty to truly knowing each child. Outside of school, Sarah enjoys hiking, skiing, swimming, and traveling with her family. A former collegiate swimmer, she was inducted into the Connecticut College Athletics Hall of Fame.
