Nitin Acharya
World Languages Department Chair

University of Pennsylvania - B.A., Central Connecticut State University - M.S. Ed.
Since joining Renbrook in 1994, Nitin Acharya has devoted his career to guiding middle school students through the transformative journey of language learning. As World Language Department Chair, Trustee Scholar Program Mentor, and Grade 8 Advisor, he brings both leadership and heart to the Upper School community. Teaching French and Spanish to students in Grades 5 through 8, Nitin sees each class as an opportunity to expand young learners’ worldviews and spark a lifelong curiosity about the broader human experience.
Nitin earned his bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in Secondary Education from Central Connecticut State University. In the classroom, he moves beyond grammar and vocabulary to explore how language reflects cultural values, history, and perspective. He invites students to examine how different languages shape the way people understand the world, helping them appreciate the power of communication to build bridges across cultures. He often reflects on the idea that “it’s all about the choices we make,” encouraging students to make choices that lead toward empathy, integrity, and meaningful connection.
As a mentor to Trustee Scholars, Nitin supports students in their community service efforts, guiding them to thoughtfully serve local organizations and individuals. As an advisor, he helps students strengthen executive functioning skills that will serve them well in their academic journeys and beyond. In every role, he is committed to helping students recognize their strengths, navigate setbacks, and celebrate milestones.
Nitin deeply values Renbrook’s unique and innovative culture of teaching and learning. He appreciates the freedom to be creative in his classroom and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in ways that energize both faculty and students. Outside of school, his love of exploration continues through travel, cruises, hiking trails in New England, cooking cuisines from around the world, reading nonfiction, keeping up with current events, and learning Italian. Among his many adventures, he once took a balloon ride across Australia’s Red Center, an experience that reflects his enduring spirit of curiosity and discovery.
