May Stoffer

Upper School Art

Franklin Pierce University - B.A.

May Stoffer has been part of the Renbrook community since 2017 and serves as the Upper School Visual Art teacher for students in grades 5 through 8. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Franklin Pierce University and has completed all but one course toward her Master’s in Art Education from the University of Nebraska, Kearney.

May’s teaching philosophy centers on creating a safe and supportive environment where students can take creative risks and embrace vulnerability. She believes that art offers a unique freedom, allowing students to express themselves authentically and experience success in deeply personal ways. In middle school, a time of rapid growth and self-discovery, she works to ensure that each student feels seen, valued, and confident in who they are.

In addition to teaching visual art, May serves as an 8th-grade advisor and coaches girls’ soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. Through these roles, she builds meaningful relationships with students, supporting their growth not only as artists but as teammates, leaders, and young people preparing for the next chapter of their education. Her goal is for students to leave Renbrook knowing they were cared for and encouraged every step of the way.

Before becoming a full-time faculty member, May worked as a Summer Adventure counselor and art program director at Renbrook and served as a teaching assistant at Whiting Lane Elementary School.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family, playing sports, exploring new restaurants, attending live music, and being with her dog. During college, she took multiple glass blowing courses, an experience that deepened her appreciation for craft and creative exploration. One quote that inspires her teaching is from Parker Palmer: “We teach who we are.”
