John Altieri

Grade 4 Teacher

Fairfield University - B.A., William Paterson University - M.A.

John Altieri became part of Renbrook’s Lower School community in 2024 as a fourth-grade classroom teacher. Working with nine- and ten-year-olds, he sees his classroom as a place where curiosity, voice, and community come together. John holds a degree in Politics and English from Fairfield University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from William Paterson University. He is K-8 certified and brings a diverse professional background to his work with students.

Over the course of his career, John has taught Pre-K, second, third, and fourth grade. He has also served as an instructional coach, partnering with teachers and supporting students from Pre-K through fifth grade, and worked as an educational consultant focused on strengthening instruction and curriculum. These experiences deepened his commitment to thoughtful, student-centered education.

John works in education to ensure that children have meaningful opportunities to share their voices and develop their interests. He recognizes that the broader culture often prioritizes adult perspectives, and he intentionally creates classroom spaces where children’s ideas, questions, and identities are valued. He is genuinely curious about what children are thinking and who they are as people. He believes that spaces where children are the majority carry a special playful energy filled with creativity, excitement, and freedom.

In his classroom, morning meetings set the tone for connection and belonging. Students learn about one another, share their experiences, and see firsthand that their passions and interests have a place in the learning community. John values Renbrook’s strong emphasis on relationships and the benefits of smaller class sizes, which allow him to provide focused instruction and meaningful support to each student.

Guided by the words, “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men,” John honors both the seriousness and the joy of learning. Outside of school, he enjoys cooking, exploring tea and coffee culture, practicing earth-based skills, golfing, and walking, pursuits that reflect his appreciation for craft, tradition, and time outdoors.
