Beginning School Music Teacher

The University of Harford - B.M.Ed., The University of Hartford - M.M.Ed.
Connie Greenwood joined Renbrook in 2021 as the Beginning School Music Teacher, bringing with her decades of experience in music education, research, and leadership. She holds a master’s degree in music education from the University of Hartford and is certified as a First Steps in Music Teacher Trainer with a Kodály Ear Training Certificate.
Throughout her career, Connie has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Hartford, taught in the Hartt Community Division and at Falcetti Music School, and worked in public education in West Hartford. She is the founder of Greenwood Music Services and an author and contributing author of three publications through GIA Publications. Her work reflects a deep commitment to advancing best practices in early childhood music education.
At Renbrook, Connie teaches students ages three to seven, focusing on early childhood music. She has conducted extensive research on child development and the ways music shapes and strengthens the brain. She continues to learn from colleagues in music therapy and related fields because she believes she is not simply teaching music but nurturing the whole child. Her goal is to instill in young learners a lifelong appetite for music by grounding their earliest experiences in joy, creativity, and meaningful engagement.
Connie also prioritizes family connection. By sharing musical notes, classroom updates, photos, and musical “gifts” from class, she invites students to continue their musical conversations at home, strengthening both learning and relationships.
She treasures the culture of kindness, excellence, and support at Renbrook, noting that the leadership, faculty, and families create an environment where children truly benefit from shared love and commitment.
Outside of school, Connie enjoys gardening, hiking, cooking for her large family, singing, and playing instruments with others. She has been married for over 40 years and is the proud mother of four daughters, grandmother of nine grandchildren, and caretaker of four goldfish and one particularly large snail. Guided by her favorite reminder to be an energy giver rather than an energy taker, she brings enthusiasm, passion, and heart to everything she does.
