Early Childhood Lead Teacher

Renbrook School (West Hartford, CT), an independent day school for children age 3 to Grade 8, is seeking an experienced teacher to fill a full-time Preschool or Junior Kindergarten Lead Teaching position in our Beginning School.

Responsibilities:

  • Nurture the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of our youngest students.
  • Design and implement a classroom environment that honors play as the way our youngest children learn about themselves, others, and their world.
  • Collaborate with grade level teachers and specialists around a theme-based curriculum.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, families, and the wider Renbrook Community.
  • Incorporate tinkering, experimenting, and making with a variety of materials to develop a foundational understanding of STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, art and math).
  • Embrace the benefits and opportunities of outdoor learning on Renbrook’s campus.
  • Approach students from an asset-based perspective and collect anecdotal information about students’ interests and skills through observation and listening.
  • Update families on their child’s progress and the curriculum through emails, narrative reports, and weekly classroom news postings.
  • Enhance the school’s commitment to diversity and belonging through an early childhood lens to ensure students see themselves reflected in the classroom environment and curriculum.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to support continued growth in teaching and learning.
  • Bring creativity, joy, and energy to the Beginning School.

Qualifications:

  • BA is required, MA is suggested. Five years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with play-based learning and the Responsive Classroom approach are encouraged.
  • Excellent communication skills.
