Sully Sullivan

Challenge Course Coordinator

William (Sully) Sullivan joined Renbrook in 2021 as Challenge Course Coordinator in Auxiliary Programs. A veteran adventure educator and mountaineer, William brings more than forty years of experience designing and leading experiential learning programs for youth and adults.

His background includes mountaineering training through Canadian Alpine and Northwest Outward Bound programs, as well as coursework in history and psychology at Manchester Community College. Over the course of his career, William has held leadership roles with organizations such as Riverfront Recapture, Northeast Adventure, Experiential Systems, and Connecticut Mountain Recreation. He has served as a challenge course trainer, evaluator, consultant, and inspector, and is a retired certification trainer for industry organizations. He has also completed advanced facilitation and program management training through High 5 and Project Adventure.

At Renbrook, Sully designs and implements experiential programs for students from Pre-K through Grade 8, and for community groups beyond the school. Through the challenge course and facilitated activities, students engage in meaningful experiences that develop communication, trust, integrity, leadership, sensible risk-taking, and personal responsibility. Sully is a product of experiential learning himself and believes strongly in its power to shape character and perspective.

A lifelong climber since the age of fifteen, Sully finds deep inspiration in the mountains. Cross-country skiing is a close second passion. His work is guided by a quote from Dr. Kurt Hahn, who wrote that the foremost task of education is to ensure the survival of qualities such as curiosity, tenacity, compassion, and an undefeatable spirit.
