State University of New York at Oswego - B.A., Syracuse University - M.S.
Kathryn Ferrante has been a cornerstone of Renbrook’s academic community since 2015, serving as Director of Library Services and working with students from Preschool through Grade 8. She holds bachelor’s degrees in both English and History from the State University of New York at Oswego and a Master of Library and Information Science from Syracuse University. She is a certified Library Media Specialist in Connecticut and previously served in the same capacity for New Hartford Public Schools.
Kathryn’s work spans all divisions of the School. In the Beginning School, she teaches weekly library classes that build early literacy skills and foster a joyful connection to books. As students grow, she partners with classroom teachers in the Lower and Upper Schools to integrate information literacy and inquiry-based learning into the curriculum. She supports students in developing research skills, practicing digital citizenship, and learning to evaluate and use information responsibly in an increasingly complex world.
At the heart of Kathryn’s work is a belief that reading opens doors. She helps students discover books that both reflect their own experiences and expand their understanding of others, nurturing empathy and perspective. She intentionally creates a welcoming library environment where students feel safe to explore, ask questions, and follow their passions. Through programs such as Upper School Library Club and Grade 4 Nutmeg Book Club, she cultivates a vibrant culture of reading and community.
Kathryn loves Renbrook for its strong sense of belonging and the way every student is truly known and encouraged. She finds joy in guiding students as they discover new ideas, develop confidence as researchers, and grow into thoughtful, curious learners whose love of reading extends well beyond their years at Renbrook.
