Jim O’Donnell joined Renbrook in 2023 as Head of the Upper School, bringing nearly three decades of experience in independent schools. He holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Boston College.
Throughout his career, Jim has served in a wide variety of roles, including faculty member at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School, Associate Director of Admissions and Director of Enrollment Management at Kingswood Oxford School, and Director of the Summer Program at Loomis Chaffee School. His work has spanned teaching, enrollment leadership, senior administration, coaching, advising, auxiliary program development, and trusteeship, giving him a comprehensive understanding of school life and leadership.
At Renbrook, Jim leads the Upper School division and co-teaches Life, Learning, and Leadership, supporting students in grades 5 through 8 as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. He also coaches varsity boys’ basketball and contributes to schoolwide initiatives through the AI Steering Committee and the Library Renovation Working Group.
Jim sees each student as a whole person striving to become their best self. He makes a point of learning about students’ interests beyond the classroom and showing up to support them in the many ways they contribute to school life. He values the strong sense of family at Renbrook, where colleagues, students, and parents consistently support one another through both daily endeavors and life’s challenges.
Outside of school, Jim enjoys golf, reading, skiing, hiking, and traveling. He and his wife are proud parents of two daughters and share their home with their family dog. One of his favorite books is The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.
