Jonathan G. Gengras ’87

November 2019 – Jonathan Gengras ’87 was born in Hartford and attended Quaker Lane Nursery School before entering Renbrook as a Junior Kindergartener. He graduated as a ninth grader and is a member of the Class of 1987.

At Renbrook, Jonathan played football, hockey, and lacrosse. In academics, he particularly enjoyed math, science, and history. Jonathan went on to Pomfret School, where he played soccer, hockey, and lacrosse. He continued on to Providence College, where he played Division One lacrosse for four years and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1994.

Upon graduating from Providence College, Jonathan began working for Ernst and Young. After six years at the firm specializing in insurance healthcare and finance, he left Ernst and Young to get his MBA from Babson College. Jonathan graduated cum laude in 2002 with a concentration in finance and entrepreneurship.

After graduating from Babson, Jonathan returned to his hometown of Hartford. He began his career at Gengras Motor Cars, his family’s long-time business founded by his grandfather, E. Clayton Gengras, in 1963. Since Jonathan joined his father and his brother in the family business, Gengras Motor Cars has expanded to 8 dealerships, representing 11 brands and a collision center. As the Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan is responsible for the finance, accounting, and human resource divisions of Gengras Motor Cars.

Jonathan’s wife, Robyn served on the Board of Trustees at Renbrook. Jonathan and Robyn are loyal Renbrook Fund supporters and the proud parents of Renbrook alumnus, Ged ’19, and Renbrook students Mary ’20 and Katherine ’23. Jonathan serves on the board of The Boys and Girls Club of Hartford and on the board of Governors for Hartford Hospital. He is also serving his third term as an elected burgess for the Borough of Fenwick in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Jonathan’s passions are all outdoors—skiing, hiking, fishing, boating, and golfing. His love of the outdoors began on Renbrook’s 75-acre campus.
