Overview of Kindergarten Program

Our full day approach to Kindergarten provides children and teachers with the opportunity to extend and elaborate on projects and class work. Time is essential to the learning process: time to ask questions, to ponder ideas, to have lengthy conversations, and to work until one is finished.

Our Kindergarten uses themes and projects to integrate thinking skills, promote positive social interaction, and enhance the development of cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.

Teachers and children work together to select class projects, investigations, and themes. For example, some topics selected in previous years have included the human body, cooking, and animals, as well as the effects of light and shadow. Children gain knowledge from direct teaching, research, field trips, and play activities.
With careful planning, teachers direct children toward their emerging talents and abilities. Within the context of the classroom environment, the students learn how to solve problems, express their feelings verbally, and think divergently, as well as have the opportunity to develop their skills. They also learn to take tasks to completion, collaborate in a group setting, and appreciate the success of their efforts.
