Barbara Lewis joined Renbrook School in 2025 as the Lower School Music Teacher, bringing a dynamic background in both elementary and advanced music education. She teaches music to students in Grades 1 through 4, introducing foundational skills while nurturing creativity, confidence, and joy in music making.

Barbara earned her Bachelor of Music in Studio Music and Jazz Vocal from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. She is a graduate of the CTDHE ARC Program and an active member of the Connecticut Music Educators Association.

Her professional experience spans multiple educational settings. She has served as an Elementary Music Specialist in Bloomfield Public Schools and as a Jazz Vocal Professor at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music. She also held the role of Director of Jazz Vocal Studies at the Hartford Conservatory. This breadth of experience allows her to bring both technical expertise and a deep understanding of child development into her elementary classroom.

Barbara is passionate about helping young students understand and appreciate music by breaking down its complexity into small, relatable, and accessible concepts. She believes that music education is not only about performance and skill building, but also about fostering confidence, resilience, and collaboration. As a strong advocate for social and emotional growth, she strives to ensure that every student feels seen, heard, and supported.

She values Renbrook’s strong sense of community and the meaningful connections it fosters within and beyond the classroom. Outside of school, Barbara enjoys gardening, singing, traveling, and reading. She and her husband have been married for 32 years and have two adult children and a cat.
A fun fact about Barbara is that she jokingly says she has “dual citizenship” as her front yard and mailbox are in Avon while her home sits in Farmington.,
