On November 17, 2011 The Renbrook Parent Association Connections Committee
presented an author event with
Alexandra Styron drew a SRO crowd to Heather Commons. The audience included book and writing club members as well as Renbrook parents and individuals from the Greater Hartford area. In her book Reading My Father, Styron chronicles the life of her Pulitzer Prize winning father, William Styron, one of the major novelists of the twentieth century. Part biography, part memoir, part elegy, this book weaves together the many varied strands of her dad's life, enlivened by the famous artists, politicians, and writers who were friends and acquaintances. She also describes his descent into depression and the toll it took on his family.
“Ms. Styron’s ardent, sophisticated and entirely winning memoir is a pointillistic accounting of the drama that brewed throughout her young life. That drama was dictated, she writes, by the ‘cloven-footed madness’ that sometimes took root in her father’s cranium.”
