A Note from the Camp Director

Welcome to the opening of the 43rd summer of adventures! I am so excited for the upcoming camp season because of the many unique programs that take advantage of our idyllic campus setting on Avon Mountain. We open with a brand new Pre-Season Adventure Camp which is available from June 12 through 23 and the main camp opens on June 26, 2017. The feedback on the two-week sessions last summer was overwhelmingly positive and that format is going to continue in 2017.

Pre-Season Sessions: June 12-16 June 18-23

Main Camp Season: Session 1 June 26-July 7 Session 2 July 10-21 Session 3 July 24-August 4

No Other Camp Compares

We are a unique camp led by teachers and educators who are experts in their fields of passion and also staffed by college-aged and selected high-school students. Over the years I have seen many of them in the halls of Renbrook School as students who have now become Counselors in Training (CITs) - my how time flies! I select a staff that reflects maturity, personal integrity and sensitivity to the needs of your children, and I purposely try to maintain a 4:1 camper-staff ratio to ensure the best experience possible. We carefully developed our programs for each age group that envelopes the growth and needs of your child at different stages of their development. Group unity, building self-confidence, and trying new things in 12+/- boys and girls groups are ALL part of what makes RSSA beyond compare!

A Customized Experience

Free Choice
Your children can customize their camp experience more this season than ever before! I love that we offer a Free Choice program that allows campers in third grade and up over 20 different activity and sport selections each week. Your child can pick out their favorite activities or try something new like our expanded Specialty Camp Weeks.

Individualized Challenge Program
This year I made sure that senior campers have a whole bunch of choices. Our programs for teens have been, and will continue to be, a strength of our philosophy and I can guarantee that they will have a blast!

New for 2017 - Specialty Camp Weeks

I really think you will like the Specialty Camp selections of Scholastics, STEAM, and Sports. Tune-up for fall and take academic-based prep classes that will get them ready for the classroom in September with organization and success. Perhaps sports agility programs are what your child needs; have them pick their sport and wow their teammates with a newly found skill. STEAM is a favorite among our Renbrook students and I know they will love it too! Building robots, learning how to code, organic farming, LEGO Mindstorm, and drone challenges are just a few examples of offerings. More selections will be added in the coming weeks so be sure to check out the website for more courses and dates! You can customize the week with full or half-day options and sport specific week-long programs in full or half-day options are available too. You can sign up beginning on March 1.

Back and Better than Ever!

Theater

  • Senior Theater is planning two new fantastic shows, while Junior Musical Theater is creating an ORIGINAL production!

Calling all Techies!

  • I highly recommend you sign your mini engineers up for the redesigned Computer and Technology course where they will design, build, and program a robot!

Feeling Adventurous?

  • Project Adventure is expanded for seniors to enjoy off-campus climbing, and the Senior Sports Agility Program prepares your child for the sports they want to play in time for the fall season.

The Campus of Renbrook School is Abuzz!

I know I speak for all of the Renbrook School faculty and staff when I say how excited we are to have you on campus and experience not only an awesome camp but a strong community that is Renbrook School. RSSA has the same philosophies that made Renbrook School one of the best in the country for more than 80 years. That philosophy is to:

  • Encourage each child's optimum development
  • Provide opportunities for each and every youngster to value her/himself
  • Respond to the needs of others

The quality and variety of the activities, combined with the small camper-staff ratio on an exceptional campus, simply cannot be beat. We love being such a unique camp and also a great value for what your child will experience year in and year out, and we hope you do too! We urge you to register ASAP to take advantage of all the discount and sign-up options. I look forward to every year when I get to greet you and your children so you can share in our excitement and commitment to the growth of the whole child--mind, body and spirit!

Sincerely,

John A. Herd
