Lower School Dress Code

Lower School students should wear neat, easy-to-manage, school appropriate clothes suitable for the weather and outdoor play. Because of changing styles and fads, not every item can be covered. When in doubt, neatness and school-appropriateness are the guidelines; feel free to call ahead for guidance on questionable items!
  1. Pants, slacks and skirts should be neat; blue denim jeans are not permitted. School-appropriate shorts may be worn in warm weather, short skirts or short shorts, and shorts designed for sports, are not permitted.
  2. Neat collarless shirts are permitted. Shirts should be long enough to cover the waist when a child's arms are raised. Shirt-tails, and any shirts or T-shirts which are too long, must be tucked in.
  3. T-shirts or sweatshirts with logos, advertising, or other words on them are not permitted. School names (other than Renbrook) are not allowed, nor are the names of companies, teams, ski slopes, etc. However, we do permit shirts with the name of a company or place in small print up in the corner of the chest, if such company names are appropriate.
  4. Sweatpants are not permitted in Grades 4 and 5.
  5. For safety reasons and for comfort during recess, tie shoes or sneakers in good condition are acceptable footwear; sandals and clogs are not. "Heelys" (sneakers with wheels) are not permitted.
  6. No hats, head scarves (except for religious reasons), caps, or outdoor boots may be worn in classrooms.
  7. No make-up is permitted in Grades 1-5.
  8. All outer clothing should be marked with the child's name
  9. Sneakers are required for gym.
